Hiawatha First Nation, once known as Rice Lake Village, is located on the north shore of Rice Lake in the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan, about 30km south of the City of Peterborough, Ontario. This area has been part of Mississauga Anishinaabeg territory since the late 1600’s.

The Old Railroad Stop is a multifaceted business designed to accommodate all of your needs. Located on the North Shore of Rice Lake you can sit and enjoy an ice cream while taking in the beautiful views from the beach or restaurant. The gas bar, convenience store and gift shop are fully stocked to cater to all your needs whether you are just passing through or staying for a while.
This event takes place at the Lakeview Ceremonial Grounds located at 126 Paudash Street in May. Enjoy browsing at the many craft vendors and tasting the delicious traditional cuisine at some of the food vendors. Be delighted by the traditional dancing, singing and drumming.
Serpent Mounds Park, owned by Hiawatha First Nation, is about 10 minutes east of the Hiawatha community on Rice Lake’s north shore. Formerly a Provincial Park, Hiawatha took over its private operation in 1995. The park offers campsites, cottages, eco-cabins, rentals for canoes and kayaks, day-use areas, sandy beaches, picnic shelters, boat launches, and a Cultural Centres showcasing the park’s natural beauty and history, including tours of the sacred Serpent Mounds site.
