North Kawartha is in Peterborough County midway between the City of Peterborough and the Town of Bancroft. The population is 2,877 and increases by approximately 10,000 during the summer months. It includes smaller urbanized areas such as Apsley, Big Cedar, Burleigh Falls, Glen Alda, Mount Julian, Stoney Ridge and Woodview.
This exquisite township is home to several lakes including Stoney Lake, which is a popular destination for hiking, boating, fishing, and swimming. It is also known for its rugged terrain, which includes the Canadian Shield. Other lakes include Clear Lake, Jack Lake, Julian Lake and Chandos Lake to mention a few.

Petroglyphs Provincial Park and Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park
- Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park has over 100 backcountry campsites. It is home to over 200 species of birds and many fish species making it a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts. The park now has an astronomy pad that offers unobstructed views of the night sky making it a great destination for stargazing and astronomy enthusiasts.

- Petroglyphs Provincial Park has one of the largest collections of ancient Indigenous rock carvings in North America. The carvings are up to 1,000 years old and include symbols and figures. The Petroglyphs are located on a massive slab of crystalline limestone that measures 180 meters long and 100 meters wide. Visitors can take self-guided tours. There are over 10km of hiking trails that lead through the forests, wetlands, and picnic areas.
The rapids are caused by a large granite shelf that spans the width of the river, creating a series of cascading waterfalls and chutes. The rapids are popular among whitewater kayakers, canoeists, and rafters, and are surrounded by scenic hiking trails. It is a stunning sight, especially in spring when the water is high.

The Creekside Music Festival is held in Apsley, Ontario. This annual event is a must-see with an impressive lineup of talented musicians, camping, delicious food, and the best part is that a portion of the proceeds go to support local charities. It’s a fun-filled weekend held the 2nd weekend of every September. It is perfect for family or just friends who want to get together and have some fun!
