Curve Lake First Nation is located approximately 25 kms northeast of Peterborough, Ontario. The First Nation territory consists of a mainland peninsula and large island (Fox Island) on Buckhorn and Chemong Lake. Curve Lake First Nation also co-owns smaller islands located throughout the Trent Severn Waterway system. The total land base of the First Nation is approximately 900 hectares.
Curve Lake is home to the Mississaugas of the Great Anishnaabe Nation. The Curve Lake community prides itself on having the very first Anishinaabe Kwe Oāgimaa (Native woman Chief) in Canada named Elsie Knott. Aswell, Curve Lake has world renowned artisans such as Norman Knott, Alice Williams and David Johnson.
The People: Curve Lake residents often speak of the tight-knit community bonds that exist in the area. Living in Curve Lake means being part of a close and supportive community where neighbors look out for one another, fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness that can be hard to find in larger urban centers.
Leased Land: While there is nothing wrong with owning property on leased land, you do need to pay the cost of the home up front without a mortgage which for many people is not practical.
Cultural Connection: Curve Lake offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Indigenous culture. Residents can participate in traditional ceremonies, learn about the Ojibwa way of life, and gain a deeper appreciation for Indigenous heritage.
Schooling: There is one school on the Curve Lake Reserve. Once your child is in grade 4, they will need to be bussed for the rest of their education to provincially funded schools.
Natural Beauty: The stunning natural surroundings, including picturesque lakes, forests, and scenic landscapes, make Curve Lake an attractive place for those who appreciate the beauty of the outdoors and seek a peaceful and tranquil living environment.
Public Transit: There is public transit to Peterborough from Curve Lake however, it is very limited running 4 times a day.
Outdoor Activities: The area provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, hiking, and camping. It is an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts looking to enjoy nature and explore the wilderness.
Health Care: The closest hospital is Peterborough Regional Health Center and is approximately 40 minutes away from Curve Lake.
Property Cost: As many properties being sold are on leased land, you are only purchasing the home and paying a lease fee for the land it is on. Thus, it can be considerably cheaper living if you have the upfront cash as a traditional mortgage is not obtainable.
Entertainment and Restaurants: There are very limited options within Curve Lake. To have any late night life you would need to travel to Peterborough.

Pow Wow, traditionally an annual spring event, signifies a gathering or celebration, marking the renewal of life. It fosters camaraderie through the revival of old friendships and the formation of new connections. Pow Wows include naming ceremonies and traditional honoring ceremonies. Today, they remain integral to the lives of many Anishnaabeg, occurring every weekend from early spring to late fall across Canada and the United States. Families often embark on the Pow Wow Trail, camping along the way and engaging in impromptu singing and dancing competitions at campsites.
